Alaska Player Of The Year Receiving Late Attention From Pac-10, MWC Schools

Jul 29, 2011 1:12 AM

Devon Bookert, a 6-2 guard from West Anchorage High in Alaska and member of the 2011 high school class, is suddenly garnering attention for the 11-12 season.

Despite being the Gatorade state player of the year and averaging 25 points, 8.5 assists, 7.1 rebounds and 3.5 steals as a senior, Bookert began getting big-time looks when he started impressing in the AAU circuit this summer. Oregon, Oregon State and Cal are also said to be in the running.

LSU Transfer Garret Green Considering San Diego State

Jul 29, 2011 1:08 AM

Garrett Green, a 6-foot-11 center from LSU, announced last week that he is transferring for his final season and has San Diego State among his finalists. He is expected to visit campus Sunday.

Because he is scheduled to officially graduate from LSU next week, Green could pursue a Master’s degree at a new school and not be subjected to the usual NCAA transfer rule of sitting out a season first.

“I really appreciate everything Coach (Trent) Johnson and LSU have done for me,” Green said in a news release last week, “but I look forward to my next opportunity.”

He reportedly has been on campus at Indiana and is expected to visit Long Beach State later this week.

Green is more likely to receive substantial playing time with San Diego State.

Malcolm Thomas Signs With South Korean Team

Jul 7, 2011 3:13 PM

Malcolm Thomas wasn’t selected in the NBA draft last month. But he also won’t have to wait to play basketball, or get paid.

While current and prospective NBA players endure what increasingly looks like a lengthy lockout, Thomas will play for Mobis Phoebus of South Korea, his agent said Monday.

A source close to Thomas confirmed a report in Asia-basket.com that he will make $350,000 next season.
